8 Ways to Build Your Faith in God

Having faith in God involves trust, belief, and a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Here are some steps and principles from the NASB that might guide you in developing or strengthening your faith in God:

  • Read and Study the Bible: The Bible is considered the Word of God and is central to growing your faith. Romans 10:17 says, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." By reading the Bible, you learn to understand God’s character, His promises, and His plan for humanity. This is the second step to building a relationship after prayer.
  • Pray Regularly: Prayer is a way to communicate with God, express your desires, and listen for His guidance. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages believers to not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving to let your requests be made known to God. Prayer is simply talking to Father God and deepening your relationship with him.
  • Obey God’s Commands: Obedience to God’s Word demonstrates trust and faith in Him. John 14:15 says, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." Obedience brings you closer to God and helps you experience His blessings and guidance.
  • Fellowship with Other Believers: Being part of a community of faith can encourage you, strengthen your faith, and provide accountability. Hebrews 10:24-25 emphasizes the importance of meeting together to spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.
  • Witness the Works of God: Recognizing and acknowledging God’s work in your life and in the world around you can bolster your faith. Psalm 9:1 says, "I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders."
  • Trust in God During Trials: Faith is often tested and strengthened through trials. James 1:2-4 tells believers to consider it all joy when encountering various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
  • Repent and Turn from Sin: Repentance is crucial in maintaining a healthy relationship with God. Acts 3:19 says, "Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."
  • Embrace God’s Grace and Forgiveness: Understanding that salvation and a relationship with God are not earned through good works but are a gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast."

Developing faith in God is a journey that involves daily choices to trust God, immerse yourself in His Word, live out His teachings, and rely on Him in every aspect of your life.
