Characteristics of the Rules of Bible Interpretation:

Each principle should be applied and not used exclusively by itself. They work the most accurately if you are using them together.

Each principle should never be taken to the extreme. Balance them with one another. Extremes will take you into error and it is His desire that you stay balanced on His plain instructions to lead a Godly life and fulfill His plan for your life.


Rule # 1 : The Principle of Context


You use the principle of context to keep the bible in it entirety in view on any certain subject.

Rule #2: The Principle of Comparison


You use the principle of comparison to compare two or more scriptures with each other to achieve a balanced view of the meaning of the scripture.

Rule #3: The Principle of Literal Meaning


You use the principle of literal meaning determine the plain and evident language intended by the author.

Rule #4: The Principle of History and Grammar


You use the principle of history and grammar to focus on the original meaning of the scripture to help determine what it means in today’s language.

Rule # 5: The Principle of Theological Concepts


You use the principle of theological concepts to embrace spiritual concepts in Scripture not mentioned by name.

Rule #6: The Principle of First Mention


You use the principle of first mention in the Scriptures to see the meaning of the first reference to the subject being mentioned in the Scriptures.

Rule #7: The Principle of Double Reference


You use the principle of double reference to see that Scripture can be applied to both Israel and the Church today.

You use the principle of application to understand the scriptures as our final authority and apply them to our individual lives.
